Senior Year: Finding the Balance
Don't isolate yourself from all the things that make senior year so unforgettable

Average Rating Article Rating

Senior year is probably the most stressful year in high school: class schedules, college admissions, and the dreaded senior project. It can be difficult to fit in any time for fun at all.  Don’t get me wrong, it is important to keep up with homework, study hard, and do well on the SATs.  But that doesn’t mean you have to cut out socializing altogether.  Too many seniors these days are so consumed with school work and getting into that one coveted college that they completely isolate themselves from all the things that make senior year so unforgettable.

Homecoming, Senior Prom - these are the things graduates will look back and smile on twenty years after graduation, not that they maintained a 4.3 GPA instead of a 4.1.  Seniors these days have piled way too much on their plate.  They have to have the best grades, the best SAT scores, take the most difficult classes, all while being the best on their sports team.  There are a rare few that actually manage all this, but most just end up stressed out, which leads to other things such as eating disorders, smoking, and drug and alcohol use.  According to a recent survey done by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, 73% of teens blamed school stress as the number one reason for their drug and alcohol use.  I am not encouraging teens to slack off in school and party all the time, but I do believe it is important to have a decent balance of both.
